About Me:
BIO SUMMRY

Dr Victor Udo has over 20 years of experience in the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electricity along with business, environmental and public policy aspects of the utility industry. He served on the New Jersey Governor’s Energy Task Force where they recommended aggressive but achievable renewable energy policy to the governor. Their recommendation was accepted with a commendation and is being implemented across New Jersey. In Delaware, he received the YMCA’s Black Achiever’s Award in 2004. Governor Miner has recognized his contributions to the YMCA through a letter of commendation, as did the Wilmington City Council through a resolution.

He was trained and briefly practiced as an electrician in Nigeria. He worked in an internationally owned battery manufacturing plant as a technician after his electrical/electronic engineering associate degree also in Nigeria. He began his US utility carrier working as an engineer at the B.L. England Power Station in Beesley’s Point, New Jersey. The plant was owned by Atlantic Electric, which was eventually merged into Conectiv that was subsequently acquired by Pepco Holdings. He has since held various leadership positions within the organization and today serves as Manager, Business Planning and Research under Pepco Holdings’ Strategic Planning and Risk Management.

Along with his risk management responsibilities, he leads the company R&D efforts in developing and testing new technologies and innovations to address the dual problems of energy, environmental and economics of oil dependency challenges. He is currently evaluating how to create “green collar” jobs through the use of electric-vehicles connected to the grid along with solar energy, energy efficiency, and wind power synergies. He is the brain behind the Mid-Atlantic Grid Interactive Cars (MAGICC) Consortium that is seeking to leverage the low utilization of local commute vehicles into distributed eneration resources for grid operations.

During his career, he has written various articles about electricity for academic and industry publications and currently sits on the Rowan University Advisory Board for Electrical Engineering. He is the chairman of Energy, Engineering and Environment committee of the New Jersey Technology Council. He is also a Board Member of Delaware Chapter of People to People International and has been nominated by the County Executive to serve on the New County Council Planning Board.

In 2001, he received a doctorate degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware. At University of Delaware, he was affiliated with the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy while focusing on the trans-disciplinary program of governance, planning and management of society, technology and environment. This experience complemented his energy management and environmental policy education at the University of Pennsylvania and electrical engineering education at Howard University where he obtained his MSc, ME and BSEE respectively.
