Every modem ever made (after 1985) was developed and tested using equipment developed by Eatontown NJ based Telecom Analysis System (now Spirent Communications). Every device transmitting data wirelessly or over any wired line has been developed and tested using equipment developed by the engineers at Spirent Communications in Eatontown.
We should certainly start at the base of the technological revolution -- the transistor was invented at Bell Labs in Murray Hill or Holmdel, was it not? And there was groundbreaking communications research done by the US Army Electronics Command (ECOM) at Ft. Monmouth.
